John Morgan Askew is an award-winning, film and television composer, music-producer and mixer living in Portland, Oregon.
Askew has composed original scores for over a dozen feature films, including the Primetime Emmy-Nominated, HBO mini-series Q : Into The Storm (dir. Cullen Hoback), documentaries Terms and Conditions May Apply and What Lies Upstream, and the critically acclaimed feature-films, Phoenix, Oregon and Calvin Marshall (dir. Gary Lundgren).
In 2024, Askew scored the Hulu series Killer Lies : Chasing A True Crime Con Man (Nat Geo/ New Yorker Studios), The New York Times Presents : “Lie To Fly” and “Weight of the World” (New York Times/ Hulu/ FX). and the HBO feature film Money Electric : The Bitcoin Mystery (which is the forth documentary project Askew has scored for director Cullen Hoback.)
As a record producer, mixer and recording engineer, Askew has produced, and collaborated with artists including M. Ward, The Delines, She & Him, Sera Cahoone, Sleater-Kinney, Portlandia, Margo Cilker, Howe Gelb, Laura Gibson, Casey Neill, Califone, The Dodos, The Coral Sea and Neko Case.
Askew works out of his recording studio, BOCCE, in Vancouver, Washington.
