Hello - Thanks for visiting my website.

My name is John Askew and I am a Portland, Oregon-based music producer, record maker and composer for film, television and advertisement.  I have produced and composed original music for HBO, Hulu, Sundance TV, PBS, Disney Jr., Columbia Sportswear, Honey Maid, Mt. Dew, Nike, Dodge, Yakima, Stanley and Keen.  In addition, I have composed original scores for over a dozen feature and documentary films and have licensed my music to films and television including Good Behavior and Rush (Amazon), Silicon Valley (HBO), C.S.I. and Criminal Minds (CBS), Bones (Fox) and Arrow (CW).

Growing up in California in the 80s, I played guitar in bands and spent any money I had on records (The Minutemen are the still greatest band that ever was).  Eventually I started to learn how to record bands using my 4-track tape recorder in my make shift studio out in my parents garage. While I did continue to play and tour in bands throughout college and after, it was my love for recording and working with other artists that led me to move to Portland in the 90’s where I helped a friend open the recording studio called Type Foundry Recording. Here I spent many long days and late nights recording, writing and creating music and collaborating with many talented musicians and friends.

After working on making albums, starting and operating a record label (do NOT do this), and starting my own recording studio called Scenic Burrows, I was asked to score my first feature film called Calvin Marshall (directed by Gary Lundgren, starring Steve Zahn).  I have since stayed very busy composing and producing music for picture, producing and making records, and collaborating with artists, producers, and creatives from all over the country.

Scenic Burrows is now the recording studio in the basement of Askew's home. Records and soundtracks have been recorded in most of the rooms of the house. Go HERE
